Christopher Boynton MD, FACS
Dr. Boynton grew up in New Jersey and graduated from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He completed his General Surgical Residency at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia where he received honors for academics and teaching fellow residents and students. Dr. Boynton is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Boynton has been voted by his fellow physicians as a Top Doc in SJ Magazine as well as one of America’s Top Surgeons for 12 straight years. He has received the Virtua Star Award for Physician Excellence. In 2011, he received national recognition with the Patient’s Choice Award.
Dr. Chris Boynton is a Board Certified General Surgeon who has pioneered laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery in the Delaware Valley. He was the first in the area to perform many of the most advanced laparoscopic procedures and has taught many of the surgeons in the area, as well as across the United States, to perform advanced laparoscopic procedures. Dr. Boynton was the instigating force behind the development of the Bariatric Surgery Program and the first to perform weight loss surgery at Virtua hospital. As of October 2016, he is dedicating his career to the care of only general surgery patients.
Over 6000 outpatient gallbladder and 7000 hernia operations have been performed by Dr. Boynton. He also operates on the lungs, colon, stomach, liver, pancreas, thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands.
The patient always has the last word in which operation they will have. Dr. Boynton believes in presenting all the options available and thoroughly discussing the risks and benefits of each procedure so the patient can choose the operation that is right for them.
